Hikone
Byobu a six-fold screen painted on
gold paper. Now a national treasure and displayed in the Hikone
Castle Museum, it was painted in the early 17th century by
a now unknown artist.
Here is one of the main pathways leading up
to the main donjon complex.
From this point, defenders could
shoot down at attackers from the vantage points on either
side of the path, from the bridge, or the tower, as well
as drop boulders.
